Abstract:
The history of language leads us along the tracks of the history of words, and hence on the tracks of the history of human thought. It allows us to discover the remnants through which these original ideas come down to the present day, it shows us how unconsciously through language we transmit them to our children. What etymology can tell us about the history of human thinking? We will talk about some Slavic and Indo-European words for emotions, their origin, their semantic evolution, about the semantic shifts of some South Slavic words borrowed in the Balkan languages.
